Mart Code Compliance
The Mart Code Compliance Department is dedicated to ensuring that all properties within the city limits of Mart are maintained free of tall grass, excessive weeds and brush or other situations which could pose a health hazzard to the citizens of Mart.
We will also be working towards the repair or removal of abandoned structures which could be a potential hazard.
If you feel there is a property that you would like us to look at for possible violations, please fill out the form below. Keep in mind that this process is not immediate and requires a series of letters and communications with the property owner.
City of Mart Ordinances relating to Code Compliance
If you have received a letter
The City of Mart Code Compliance department will in most cases follow the steps below:
Once a property has been identified as having serious violations as set forth on Article 3.06, 6.02 or 6.03 of the City of Mart Ordinances, a letter will be issued to the resident/property owner advising of the violation so that it can be corrected. There are no fines or aactions associated with this initial letter. The resident/owner generally has 14-21 days to correct the issue
Upon observing the property after the 14-21 day period, if corrective actions have not been made, an Administrative letter will be sent. This letter will define the steps the City of Mart will undertake in an effort to bring the property up to acceptable standards. The resident/owner will have 14 days from the date of the letter to make all corrections outlined in the letter.
If after 14 days of the 2nd letter, corrective actions have not been completed, the City of Mart will begin the process of making the corrections for you and attaching a lien to the property for costs incurred to the city.
** If a property is an immediate threat to the Health or Safety of the Citizens of Mart, the City can and may take immediate actions to correct the issue and will bill the property owner for costs incurred to the City. This can include falling structures, overgrowth impeding stop signs, driveways or roadways. Property owners are responsible for grass, trees, brush and growth up to the edge of the roadway including drainage ditches.
